It is a bumper news update today with some exciting news for students as they near the end of the term and some purchasing and set up info for parents.
Excursion to Apple Store
We are organising an excursion for all year 3 students to the Apple Store at Westfield, Chermside. At the store the students will participate in a Creative Storytelling workshop. This excursion will be in Week 9 and no costs are associated with student participation. A parent letter and permission forms will be sent home soon.
Purchasing an iPad
Many stores will start promoting iPads in Christmas catalogues shortly. If you are looking for an iPad, other options include:
We are registered with the Apple Store as a BYO school. If you mention Ferny Hills State School on the purchase of products in store, you will receive 4% off an iPad, 15% off AppleCare+ and 10% off accessories. The Apple Store is also a wonderful resource for setting up Apple IDs and Family Sharing accounts.
We have an education portal on the JB Hi-Fi site. A variety of products are listed here, however, not all are required at the school. For example an external keyboard, Apple pencil or an iPad Pro are not required, but are options parents may choose.
The school login details are: FERNYHSS
Apple IDs and Family Sharing
To ensure family data privacy on a BYO device, we require each family to set up a Family Sharing Account through Apple ID. This account is for school use only. Your child must be signed in to this account on the BYO device when in use at school.
Support for setting up an account for your child is provided in the following locations
· Setting up an Apple ID (for a parent)
· Creating a Family Sharing account (for your child’s use at school)
· Setting up restrictions on the device

· All Apple Stores will support users with these topics.
Apps for download
The apps that students will require on their BYO iPad are listed on the school website. Navigate toCurriculum | ELF iPad Program | Under Related Links select iPad Apps required for ELF.
Once you have navigated to the page on the BYO iPad, simply click on the link which directs the user to the app on the App Store. Apps can then be individually downloaded onto the device.
There are three categories of apps being used in 2019: free, paid and pre-installed. Those pre-installed should be available on iPads, however, a link has been provided if not displaying on the device.
In 2019 the school will run a weekly technical support session. This will be facilitated by the school’s technicians every Thursday morning from 8:00-8:30am in the resource centre for children and their parents to help solve iPad concerns.
