Library PDF Print E-mail
Our fully computerised Library or Resource Centre provides a wide range of resources for both educational and recreational reading to all members of the school community – students, staff and parents.

For students we have a large collection of picture books and novels, an extensive non-fiction section and reference area.

To support teachers in the development of the curriculum we maintain a Teacher Reference area of books, videos, DVDs, big books, kits, pictures, maps and computer software.

The Library holds a Parent Library aimed at helping parents discuss with their children topics such as puberty, bereavement or divorce.

The Library also has 6 computers for student use before school, lunch time and for research during class time.

At Ferny Hills the Library strives to:
  • Foster enthusiasm for reading
  • Provide an exciting, stimulating environment for learning
  • Provide quality and current resources

As well as maintaining the collection and physical environment the Teacher-Librarian delivers weekly lessons to all classes.
These lessons:
  • Promote and evaluate literature
  • Teach students library awareness and navigation skills
  • Develop Information Literacy and Research Skills
  • Enhance Critical Thinking Skills

At the Library students can:
  • Find a quiet corner to read or do research
  • Play educational games or do research on the computers
  • Play quiet games including chess, board games and puzzles
  • Build with Lego and other manipulative games
  • Draw or participate in the weekly craft activities.
